School-Wide Positive Behaviour

At Patterson Lakes Primary School, we are beginning our journey to implement a School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework. This is an evidence-based framework for Victorian Government schools, aimed at creating a positive, safe and supportive learning environment where students thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

A School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework helps ensure teachers and students have more time to focus on building relationships and delivering effective classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:

  • Increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • More time focused on learning and instruction
  • Improved social and emotional wellbeing
  • Stronger, positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • Increased use of evidence-based teaching practices
  • A predictable learning environment, with improved feelings of safety
  • Increased attendance

Patterson Lakes Primary School has a clearly defined set of expected behaviours, referred to as our Matrix of Expectations. These expectations are linked to our school values: Integrity, Respect and Excellence. The matrix is displayed across different school settings and is explicitly taught to all students. This ensures our students understand what expected behaviours look like, sound like and feel like in everyday school life.
